This summer we will retrofit up to 1,000 yards with rotary sprinkler nozzles.  These nozzles can be up to 30% more efficient than traditional designs.  If half of your water use is watering your lawn, you could reduce your water use by up to 15% per year by adopting this new technology. Funding for this opportunity is provided through a grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board.  If you would like to participate in this FREE opportunity, here’s what you can expect:

a)    If you are a resident of the Douglas County/S. Metro Area who wishes to take advantage of this water and money saving opportunity, you may begin signing up for retrofits at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 7th by going to www.dcwater.org.  Click on the button, fill out the form, and press send.

b)    You will immediately receive an autoreply thanking you for signing up.  You will receive an E-mail or call back to schedule the retrofits on a first come-first served basis.  You will receive a reminder call the day before their retrofit.  Retrofits begin the first week of June, and conclude the first week of August.  You will need to be at home during the retrofit.

c)    High school age students pursuing summer job opportunities will perform the retrofits.  Adults will supervise the work of the students.  All installers will receive training from industry professionals.

d)    There is no cost to you for the retrofit – either for parts or labor. A list of contractors will be made available, as well as a list of “where to buy” for do-it-yourselfers, or those who call us after the 1,000 retrofits have been taken by other participants.  Make sure you sign-up early.  This opportunity is expected to go fast!

e)    Participants will also receive educational information at the time of the retrofit on how to best operate their irrigation clocks.

f)      Participants will be asked to complete a post-program survey to let us know how we did.  Participants will be asked to share their water use information with DCWRA so that the effectiveness of the program may be measured.  In most cases the utility that delivers your water will be able to provide this information with your consent.  In some cases, you may be asked to share the information directly.

g)    This opportunity is limited to the retrofit of rotary sprinkler nozzles, which are installed on top of pop-up style spray bodies.  The opportunity does not include exchange of sprinkler bodies, replacement of impact heads, or repair of broken irrigation systems.  A list of contractors, or locations to purchase parts, will be made available so that you will have information about how to independently pursue these larger issues.
